Walled garden
Somerset, UK

Originally a formal potager serving a country manor, the featured walled garden had been sub-divided and partially surfaced to provide its former owners with vehicle access and parking. Under new and inspired ownership, a plan for its restoration was commissioned. The historic curving stone walls were closed up using reclaimed materials and the surfaced areas removed and re-soiled. A hornbeam hedge, separating garden and vehicle areas was opened up and pleached to remove its lower branches, visually reconnecting the two sides of the garden. A new bound gravel path system and additional parterres in the former car parking area further serve to weave the two halves of the garden into a unified whole.
